Thiess delivered the Darwin Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Marine and Rough Grading Works Project as part of the Darwin LNG Project.

Thiess was responsible for all site earthworks as well as the design and construction of a 1.3-kilometre jetty and loading platform, which was built to support insulated pipe for transporting LNG from the storage tank to waiting ocean tankers.

The overall project saw the LNG processing plant receiving gas via an undersea pipeline from the Bayu Udan gas field in the Timor Sea. The plant removes impurities and liquefies the gas by refrigeration. The liquid is then pumped to the storage tank before being transported by insulated pipe across the jetty to waiting ocean tankers.

Thiess was also awarded a contract to complete the design and construction of the LNG storage tank for the project.
