Landmark building project wins major awards
Spectacular North Sydney office tower Ark-Coca-Cola Place has been honoured with two major awards from the Property Council of Australia in the Rider Levett Bucknall 2011 Innovation and Excellence Awards.
Built by Thiess for Investa Property Group, Ark-Coca-Cola Place picked up the national Baulderstone Award for Best Sustainable Development – New Buildings. Earlier this month the project also received the NSW Development of the Year Award.
The office building sets a new benchmark with its dramatic architectural form and is the first high-rise office tower to achieve 6 Star Green Star Design and As Built ratings for its environmentally sustainable design.
Among many green design features, Ark is one of the first buildings to be equipped with a tri-generation system, which provides electricity, hot water, heating and cooling. Water consumption is also reduced through rain water collection and grey water recycling.
Announcing the Sustainable Development award, Property Council of Australia CEO Peter Verwer said Ark is an example of the exceptional outcomes our industry can produce.
“The building embraces tomorrow’s environmental sustainability, contemporary design and technology to create an inspirational workplace. It has put the North Sydney CBD firmly back on the map,” Mr Verwer said.
Thiess’ Executive General Manager Construction, Ric Buratto said the awards were a great honour for our client Investa Property Group and recognises Thiess’ commitment to innovation.
“Ark is a magnificent example of client and builder working together to come up with a truly landmark achievement,” Mr Buratto said.
