Our apprenticeship programs are a great way to kick-start your career and secure a pathway into our large and diverse workforce. By combining paid work and training, you will learn some of the practical skills that we require of our team and gain nationally recognised qualifications along the way.
We offer a number of apprenticeships annually through the program. We provide a structured apprenticeship or traineeship process, supported by block theory components through local TAFE colleges or registered training organisations. Qualifications include:

The Application Process
The process of getting an apprenticeship goes like this:
- We post openings on our Careers pages as soon as they become available which is typically around August/September of each year
- You complete an online application form
- We contact you via phone, email or letter to advise if you are successful through to the next stage
- The recruitment process begin
Eligibility
Candidates must have completed year 12 (unless you are a mature aged applicant), with sound results in Mathematics and English.
Thiess encourages females, mature aged and Indigenous candidates to apply.
The Recruitment Process
The Recruitment Process begins around August/September each year and goes through until December. New apprentices start in early January.
- Your application will be acknowledged by email. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
- If you progress to the next stage, you will then be invited to attend an Apprentice Recruitment Day.
- The Recruitment Day includes receiving more information about the positions available, a one-on-one interview, group activities and psychometric testing.
- In the interview itself, you'll be asked for examples that demonstrate your knowledge, skills and experiences.
- If successful on the Recruitment Day, further assessment is required such as a pre-employment medical, which includes drug and alcohol testing.
- The next step is checking references you've provided in your application. Professional referees will usually be previous supervisors or managers who've observed your abilities in the work environment.
- If successful, you will be made a verbal offer explaining in detail the package being offered.
- If you verbally accept the offer, you'll receive a formal letter of offer. This is to be signed and returned to us to confirm your employment.
