Solomon Mine is part of the FMG major expansion in the Pilbara. The company’s three hub strategy will see them own three major iron ore operations in close proximity and work off centralised infrastructure. Solomon Mine is expected to start producing ore in 2012 and ramping up to 60 million tonnes by June 2013.
Thiess won the major $100 million contract with Fortescue Metals Group for development works on Phase one of the Solomon Iron Ore Mine in Western Australia’s Pilbara region.
The 18 month contract was for initial pioneering and mine establishment works such as:

» Stockpile pads and the
» Mining of early ore and waste
